Deadline Reminder for Accreditation of New Groups<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

NGOs and other Major Groups’ organisations that are not yet <\/strong>accredited to the United Nations and wish to participate in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) will be offered a one time opportunity to become accredited to Rio+20. <\/span><\/p>\n

The deadline for new accreditations is <\/strong>20 February 2012.<\/strong> Once your registration is approved, your organisation can pre-register representatives until the general deadline of 20 may 2012.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Registration Accreditation to Rio+20 Now Open<\/span><\/span> <\/span>
<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, “Rio +20”, will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 20 to 22 June 2012. The conference will be preceded by the third Preparatory Committee meeting of the Conference, from 13 to 15 June 2012. In accordance with General Assembly resolution A\/C.2\/66\/L.53, the pre-registration for participation in the preparatory meeting and in the Conference by relevant NGOs and other major groups is now open. Economic Commission for Europe: Report on the Rio Preparatory Process

In preparation for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD; Rio+20 Conference), scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012, member States of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) and representatives of major groups, United Nations agencies and other international bodies met in Geneva to identify the specific challenges and priorities of the ECE region with regard to the Rio+20 Conference, including policy recommendations and good practices. <\/a>“Biodiversity and Ecosystem Insecurity: A Planet in Peril”<\/strong> has been produced by Stakeholder Forum.<\/strong> It was edited by Ahmed Djoghlaf<\/strong> and Felix Dodds<\/strong> and includes chapters by: Gusti Muhammad Hatta, Thomas E. Lovejoy, Craig Bennett, Johan Rockstrom, Bob Watson, Achim Steiner, Jan McAlpine<\/strong> and Monique Barbut.<\/strong> The book provides an authoritative and comprehensive assessment of the threats presented to human security and well-being by the loss of ecosystems and biodiversity \u2013 recently confirmed as one of the critical ‘planetary boundaries’ that has already been exceeded.
