{"id":2226,"date":"2013-03-04T14:56:13","date_gmt":"2013-03-04T14:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xsf.stakeholderforum.org\/2013\/03\/04\/global-transition-2012\/"},"modified":"2023-01-28T22:01:14","modified_gmt":"2023-01-28T22:01:14","slug":"global-transition-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sf.stakeholderforum.org\/index.php\/global-transition-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Transition 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<table style=\"width: 698px; height: 167px;\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<tr style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-2225\" style=\"margin: 10px; float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/xsf.stakeholderforum.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/839446c548b94d326cdbca19c4087760_1M.png\" alt=\"839446c548b94d326cdbca19c4087760 1M\" height=\"133\" width=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><strong>Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future, nef (the New Economics Foundation) and New Economics Institute worked in partnership to catalyse the Global Transition 2012 initiative.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<table style=\"width: 900px;\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"margin-left: 150px;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 7.5pt 0cm 11.25pt 30px; line-height: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\">The initiative aimed to catalyse a \u2018Global Transition\u2019 by building a community of civil society organisations across the globe to promote and deliver a rapid shift to an alternative global economy&nbsp;that maximises well-being,&nbsp;operates within environmental limits&nbsp;and is capable of coping and adapting to global environmental change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 7.5pt 0cm 11.25pt 30px; line-height: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\">Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future,&nbsp;nef&nbsp;(<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.neweconomics.org\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #ce0064; text-decoration: none;\">the new economics foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\">) and&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/neweconomicsinstitute.org\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #ce0064; text-decoration: none;\">New Economics Institute<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\"> worked with partners such as the Green Economy Coalition and Bioregional to produce a series of \u2018Challenge Papers\u2019 to develop a clear perspective on emerging green economy priority areas and feed into the Rio+20 process; and coordinated a series of stakeholder dialogues to bring together leading new economic thinkers and practitioners who are pioneering the transition to a green and fair economy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 7.5pt 0cm 11.25pt 30px; line-height: 12pt;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\">Why do we need a Global Transition?<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 7.5pt 0cm 11.25pt 30px; line-height: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\">The path we are currently on is unsustainable. But, putting the brakes on consumption will, in the current economic system, trigger further unemployment, injustice, and a major decline in human wellbeing. Hence, the tremendous appeal of business as usual and the unwillingness to address the huge systemic problems we face.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 7.5pt 0cm 11.25pt 30px; line-height: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: Arial; color: #333333;\">We are convinced that there is an alternative. This alternative is not just necessary, but both desirable and possible. It means moving to a new economy that delivers well-being and social justice for all without stretching the Earth\u2019s resources beyond breaking point.
