Convergence of post-Millenium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals processes<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Reconciling human development and environmental protection is a challenge that humanity has been struggling with for over 40 years (and much before). The 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm formally started the dialogue, but we still have not managed to achieve such reconciliation in policy and decision-making on a mass basis.The convergence of development and environment is essentially sustainable development; something with both people and planet need urgently.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n
 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n
The post-MDG development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) processes offer a monumental opportunity to bring together the development and environment communities to make universally applicable decisions to achieve a world that is fair and prosperous for all, which exists within environmental limits and is realised through systems of governance that are inclusive, transparent and accountable.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Stakeholder Forum’s Response to the High Level Panel’s Report<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Stakeholder Forum has welcomed the Secretary General’s High Level Panel report: ‘A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development’ and its central message that an integrated approach to sustainable development is the way forward to end poverty within our generation. While praising the work of the Panel, the response also highlights the need for stronger leadership on the convergence of the sustainable development goals and post-MDG processes, and the creation of a single set of global goals that holistically address all three dimensions of sustainable development.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has published \u2018Carrots and Sticks<\/a><\/span>\u2019, a report launched during its annual conference last May. The report provides an important overview of global developments in policy and regulation for sustainability and CSR reporting. It emphasizes the role of governments in advancing this agenda; and highlights, among other issues, the role of civil society as a driver for corporate transparency and accountability. Stakeholder Forum\u2019s Jeannet Ling\u00e1n participated as member of the steering committee for this report, as part of Stakeholder Forum’s work on corporate transparency and accountability.<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The purpose of this role is to act as the focal point for Stakeholder Forum and its work in New York and at the UN Headquarters, including liaising with UN Missions and governments, UN staff and stakeholders. This role is vital in ensuring we have strong and active relationships with key actors in international sustainable development, and includes leading our engagement with the various UN processes agreed at Rio+20, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the post-2015 Development Agenda.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n
