What do the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mean for the UK?<\/span><\/p>\n

The SDGs, which will be agreed by all heads of government including the UK Prime Minister, will replace the Millennium Development Goals from 1 January 2016. The SDGs will constitute a shared global agenda for people and planet which impact on all areas of government policy \u2013 economic, environment and social. They are designed to drive poverty eradication, especially extreme poverty in low-income countries, but also address patterns of consumption and production in the developed world and at the same time ensure environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

As such, they will be an important advocacy tool for advancing progressive policies around the world with the potential to boost UK lobbying and campaigns over the next 15 years.
 
We are therefore inviting UK NGOs and other UK stakeholders to come together to begin a dialogue seeking to understand the implications of a universal post-2015 development agenda for the UK at home and abroad.<\/p>\n

The day will be in two parts and you are welcome to attend either or both:<\/p>\n

10:00 \u2013 12:00 : Introductory session, setting the scene<\/span>
– What are the SDGs, why should we care about them?
– What is in it for domestic NGOs?
– What is our definition of universality?<\/p>\n

13:00 \u2013 15:30 : In-depth discussion, planning the way forward<\/span>
– What are the policy implications (for both foreign and domestic policy) for the UK given the universality principle?
– How to go about national target setting.
– What indicators\/data could\/should UK use?
– What should implementation look like in the UK?
– Next steps<\/p>\n

This session is the first in a series which will:<\/p>\n
