An Open Letter from UK NGOs to the British Prime Minister calling for leadership on Rio+20

One year out from Rio+20 Stakeholder Forum together with a group of leading UK non-government organisations, including Oxfam, WWF and Christian Aid, today sent a joint letter to the Prime Minister highlighting the urgency of the poverty and resource scarcity challenges and asking him to attend the conference and show leadership and commitment towards a successful Summit in June 2012. More

The book provides an authoritative and comprehensive assessment of the threats presented to human security and well-being by the loss of ecosystems and biodiversity – recently confirmed as one of the critical ‘planetary boundaries’ that has already been exceeded. 64th Annual United Nations DPI/NGO Conference focusing on Rio+20

The 64th Annual United Nations DPI/NGO Conference will be held 3-5 September 2011, in Bonn, Germany focusing on Rio+20 and the ten year anniversary of voluntarism. The title of the conference is “Sustainable Societies; Responsive Citizens”.  More

In November 2011 the German government will host an international conference in Bonn entitled “The Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus – water resources in the green economy”, as part of its contribution to Rio+20. In preparation for this meeting the ‘2nd World Congress on Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change’ also took place in Bonn, Germany, 3 – 5 June 2011. More

As part of the International Year of Youth (August 2010 – August 2011) young people will be an integral part of this year’s 64th Annual UN Department of Public Information NGO Conference “Sustainable Societies, Responsive Citizens,” 3-5 September 2011 in Bonn, Germany. The New York Youth Subcommittee is organizing this pre-Bonn Conference briefing that will focus on youth related to the topic of this year’s Conference in Bonn. More

The UK’s Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne has today welcomed a new report on green growth from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The organisation’s ‘Towards Green Growth’ report was launched at the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting on 25 May. More

The International Council for Science has established a website specifically for their activities around Rio+20. The website details general background information as well as workshops and activities relevant to the Science and Technology Major Group. More

A grassroots campaign entitled “Rights of Mother Earth” has been launched calling forth the universal acceptance of Rights of Nature within the Rio+20 agenda. More
