Launch of Earth Summit Watch

Stakeholder Forum with NRDC and Peace Child have launched Earth Summit Watch. The initiative provides users with information on what UN member states are doing to prepare for June’s Rio+20 conference.

The UN recently announced that 115 heads of state are already committed to attend Rio+20, but has not released their names, nor is there much information readily available on how their governments are preparing for Rio+20. To fill this important information gap, Earth Summit Watch is gathering and publishing current information on the status of Rio+20 preparations in every country.

Earth Summit Watch has already begun contacting governments to get answers to a handful of fundamental questions about their individual preparations. Earth Summit Watch highlights these responses so you can see how your country is doing when compared to its competitors and neighbors. We are starting to gather examples of positive leadership for Rio, but many governments still need to step up their efforts.
