Felix Dodds at the UN GA

On 29 October 2010 Felix Dodds gave a speech at the UN General Assembly on The Challenge and Spirit of Rio, in which he discusses the current challenges that the world faces today, how to address them and how long we have to address them.

He argues that governments in developed countries are accountable for failing to implement many of the recent international environmental regimes, despite a proclaimed commitment to act. To address these critical environmental issues, it is essential that governments, intergovernmental organisations and stakeholders cooperate in order to reach a ‘new deal’ between North and South and between present and future generations. The Earth Summit 2012 is a unique opportunity to achieve such cooperation, engage the global public and progress towards a more sustainable and green economy.
