Outcomes from PrepCom II 

After attending the recent PrepCom II in New York, Stakeholder Forum has produced the following observations and updates:

Participation increases – there were many more civil society actors at the PrepCom than there have been at any previous meetings, including a number of larger international NGOs. Aarhus Convention calls for feedback on draft declaration

As part of its contribution to the Rio+20 process, the Bureau of the Aarhus Convention has released a draft declaration on the role of the Convention in promoting sustainable development and is inviting stakeholders to provide responses to the document. The declaration is expected to be adopted by the Meeting of the Parties at its fourth session (29 June – 1 July 2011).More

Stakeholders invited to submit contributions and inputs for Rio+20

On 8 March 2011, the Preparatory Committee for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) invited all Member States, relevant UN system organizations and relevant stakeholders to provide inputs and contributions in writing by 1 November 2011 for inclusion in a draft Conference outcome document. Stakeholder Forum releases paper with Bioregional and the Earth Charter Initiative on ‘Principles for the Green Economy’

Stakeholder Forum in collaboration with Bioregional and the Earth Charter Initiative have produced a paper which consolidates a range of principles for the green economy, building on existing agreements and also emerging recommendations. The paper hopes to contribute to the emerging debate on defining principles for the green economy to ensure that it serves in the interest of sustainable development. More
